Adobe Illustrator Software Simulation

Software Simulation Solution for College Course

The Problem
A college-level Cross-Platform Media Messages course needed a way to reinforce software instruction outside the scheduled course meetings. Students received software instruction during a course meeting, but commonly questions come up and software training usually requires more review and practice than just one session.
The Solution
A 3-part software simulation solution was created.
  • Demo Video: A demo video was created to allow students to view the process of creating a draft of a PSA within Adobe Illustrator
  • Training E-Learning Module: An e-learning module was created to allow students to practice using Adobe Illustrator. Students were given voiceover and hints and practiced clicking in the right areas of the software to help recreate the PSA.
  • Assessment E-Learning Module: An e-learning module was created to allow students to test their skills in Adobe Illustrator in a more challenging environment. Students were not given voiceover or hints but were asked to click in the right areas of the software to help recreate the PSA.
Responsiblities and Tools Used
  • Responsibilities: Instructor, Subject-Matter-Expert, Instructional Designer, and E-Learning Developer
  • Tools Used: Adobe Captivate, Adobe Audition, Adobe Illustrator, Moodle LMS, and Microsoft Word
This e-learning solution not only offers instruction to the student about how to use Adobe Illustrator, but also offers them an opportunity to practice. After years of experience, it is known that one in-class training session on a new piece of software will likely not be enough. Therefore, this learning solution is meant to reinforce the in-class instruction and allow students to learn and practice asynchronously on their own time outside of class.
