Photography Samples

My main experience has been in videography, yet many of the principles of photography and videography are the same. I have been fortunate to have photography experience on film cameras as well as digital cameras (handheld and cellphone). I have also taught Photojournalism on the college level with digital cameras.

Below are some samples of my photography as well as some of my thoughts. Although a few photos might benefit from a touch-up in a photo editing program, I have not manipulated these in one in order to more accurately portray my photography.

Nature and Scenery

Photography is a combination of being at the right place at the right time, and knowing how to use your camera and your camera eye for composition. A slower shutter speed can make the dark city night come alive with lights, or a faster shutter speed can capture thousands of water droplets in the air as a polar bear shakes himself dry.

Rear Curtain Sync

Picasso may have made this famous, but the rear curtain sync setting on your camera might make you famous, as you can literally write your name in lights! By leaving the shutter open longer, you can get some cool effects, including capturing the entire path of a sparkler, cars leaving light trails, and a brighter-than-normal Eiffel Tower at night.

Panoramas

Sometimes the scenery is bigger than your lens, but you do the best you can with a panorama.

Family

Photography is about capturing moments. One of the best moments I ever captured with a camera was the look on my wife's face when we picked up our Corgi dog named Jack that she had wanted for years.

I offer here pictures of my beautiful wife and others we have been fortunate enough to have in our family.
